The Chicago Anna Hurban District hosted its annual scholarship awards luncheon for its eighteen Chicago District Scholarship winners and their guests on Saturday, June 28, 2014 at the European Chalet in Chicago, Illinois. The District and Branch Officers and members congratulated the scholarship winners on their scholastic achievements.
Mary Therese Tylus, Anna Hurban District of Chicago President, reported that for the 2014-2015 Scholarship Program, the First Catholic Slovak Ladies Association awarded to its members from first grade through and including graduate school the amount of $254,500 of which $19,500 went to eighteen Chicago District members comprising four elementary, four high school, and ten college students, with the college students ranging from freshman to senior year.
The eighteen scholarship winners are: Evan J. Jurcenko (J96), Nathaniel A. Anglin (J106), Sarah I. Braun (J106), Noah P. Clements (J106), William J. Rome (J308), Hannah Elise Brannigan (J339), Rebecca A. Valek (J382), Martin A. Szuck (S46), Jennifer A. Michuda (S180), Maryssa L. Gosnell (S181), Albert Martinez, Jr. (S181), Jessica M. Miksanek (S181), Thomas E. Kucinsky (S225), Hunter T. Priesol (S258), Justin R. Lizalek (S287), Emily Ann Sliazas (S421), Richard L. Strache (S421), and Jessica L. Kudia (S485). As the awardees in attendance were called up to receive their certificate from the District, a short family and scholastic biography informing the attendees of their school, grade/year, favorite subjects and other information of interest was read aloud.
