On a hot, sunny, humid Sunday afternoon, forty-four FCSLA Chicago District junior members and their guests enjoyed a Chicago White Sox vs. Kansas City Royals game that began at 1:10 pm in the afternoon.
The Chicago White Sox did not disappoint the crowd and beat the Kansas City Royals 10-1, with two home runs made by the Chicago White Sox. True to the traditions of the Chicago White Sox Ballpark, as the home runs made by the home team were made, fireworks and the original scoreboard from the former Comiskey Park went off, once again delighting the crowds as it has since the team’s inception.
The group had awesome seats along the first base line in the first tier of seats at Guaranteed Rate Field (as Comiskey Park is now known). The new stadium was built between 1989-1990 and opened in 1991 under the name of Comiskey Park with a name change to U.S. Cellular Field in 2003 and in 2016 becoming known as Guaranteed Rate Field.
The group munched on hot dogs, sodas, fries, chips, and nacho cheese chips as well as the other usual fare found at any major baseball field, including the famous Chicago Vienna-style hot dogs. All in all, despite the hot, sticky weather and storm clouds looming in the background, the group had a fantastic time and enjoyed commiserating with each other as they enjoyed one of America’s favorite pastimes. Thanks to Dave Krugley, Junior Branch 106 Secretary, for putting together this fun-filled day.
