The Anna Hurban District of Chicago welcomed in the holiday season by celebrating the District’s first Matching Funds event at the combined annual Junior Branches Christmas Party. On November 10, 2019, the weather cooperated by giving us a clear but unseasonably cold day as we welcomed almost 70 district members, with an equal number of adults and children taking part in the day’s festivities.
The party was held at St. John’s Church Community Center in Mokena, Illinois, and the matching funds activity was a combination of a “Split the Pot Cash Raffle” and a “Split the Pot Bingo.” Both activities raised funds for the St. Vincent DePaul Outreach Ministry at St. Anthony Church in Frankfort, Illinois. The Outreach Ministry coordinates events such as monthly food drives, a yearly coat drive, an annual Easter Basket Giving Tree, Christmas Giving Tree, and other collections throughout the year. This team of volunteers devotes their time and talent in helping those in need.
In addition to the money raised in the matching funds activities, members attending the party also donated canned goods for the food pantry coordinated by this Ministry.
Thank you to our members for their generosity in raising funds totaling $470 and for the outpouring of non-perishable food products they brought to this event.
