Chicago’s Junior Branch 339 sponsored a matching funds event “All-You-Can-Eat Annual French Toast Breakfast and Raffle” for St. Bruno Parish’s Boy Scout Troop 42 on Sunday, February 22, 2014, to assist in raising funds that will promote the troops’ various events and summer camp activities. The First Catholic Slovak Ladies Association, District Anna Hurban of Chicago, hosted its tenth annual combined Senior Branch Christmas Party at the Orland Chateau in Orland Park, Illinois on Saturday, December 7, 2013 with a total of 371 senior branch members and guests in attendance. District members and their guests enjoyed many great conversations while catching up on the years’ events before and during the luncheon.

Saturday, October 5, 2013, the Anna Hurban Chicago Branches and District co-hosted a “Bring a Friend/Tell a Friend” event that included an FCSLA financial products presentation by our National Sales Manager, Patrick Braun. The event was the idea of Chicago’s District Treasurer, Carol Rosenthal, who pitched the idea to both the District and Branch Officers to co-host an event that would potentially boost membership for the various Branches and District. FCSLA Junior Branches 39, 96, 106, 174, 322, 339, 382, 427 and the Chicago District co-sponsored their third annual Junior Member Christmas Party at noon on Saturday, November 16, 2013 at St. Simon Slovak Parish’s gymnasium. Approximately 45 children and 61 adults participated in snowman beanbag toss, cookie decorating, ornament making, face painting, a coloring contest, a few games of bingo and a raffle with four super-raffle prizes. (SCS) in Tinley Park, IL held a thank you reception for its financial supporters by hosting a special thank you reception at their facilities on Thursday, September 26, 2013. Mary Pat Ambrosino, Executive Director of SCS, gave the financial supporters in attendance a brief update on the events of the past year and thanked them once again for all their support. Chicago District FCSLA members were a strong presence among the 167 attendees at the September 15, 2013 Midwest Slovak Pastoral Seminar held at St. Simon the Apostle Slovak Church in Chicago. This year’s event, held on the Feast Day of Our Lady of Sorrows, commemorated the 1,150th anniversary of the evangelization of the Slovak People by Saints Cyril and Methodius. Continue reading →

Labor Day weekend 2013, the Slovak Community in the Chicago area hosted a visit with Bishop Jozef Halko, Auxiliary Bishop of Bratislava, Slovakia. Bishop Halko brought with him the relics of Saints Cyril and Methodius, which were on loan from the Slovak Papal Institute of Saints Cyril and Methodius, Rome, to commemorate the 1,150th evangelization of the Slovak people by these saints.

On Saturday, November 2, 2013, approximately 50 members of the St. Simon Slovak Community, led by Fr. Kristián Libant, CM, made a pilgrimage in their Slovak tradition to Our Lady of Sorrows Slovak Catholic Cemetery for an All Souls’ Day memorial mass and devotions to the deceased. Continue reading →
Sunday, August 4, 2013, the Chicago Junior Branches sponsored “Bowling for all Ages II” for its junior members and their families at the Centennial Bowl in Tinley Park, Illinois.
